about us
e-werk weimar e.V. is a cultural non-governmental organization in Weimar, Germany with its home on the grounds of the E-Werk in Weimar. To be exact, it runs and maintains the Strassenbahndepot in the E-Werk.

Since 2004, the NGO is also active as an initiator of culture. It develops its own projects that are accordingly (and when possible) presented in the E-Werk.

The European network of the NGO is growing steadily. In 2005 German-Polish cultural projects were in the foreground (Perron 26; UWAGA! The Polish are Coming; Institute for German-Polish Spaceflight - in Krakow), in 2006/2007 the German-French-Polish project MISSION EUROPE was realized with a symposium, a trip through the Balkans, the development of 12 artistic works and exhibitions in Marseille, Katowice and Weimar.

At the current moment, the NGO is preparing several projects. LIGHT HOUSE ANKARA will bring young Polish, French and German artists together with their Turkish contemporaries in Ankara. In Bauhaus Year 2009, young artists from these four nations will develop activities together.

Since the NGO does not receive institutional support of any kind, all of its projects are supported by financing from local, national and European funds, foundations and institutions.

« The great thing about our work is that we redefine ourselves with every project. That means that, in contrast to most NGOs active in the cultural sector, we have a program that never repeats itself. Our projects are closed-cycle adventures with partially unknown endings. In this way they are exciting and demand a great degree of fantasy, improvisation and autonomy from the participants. »   - Katja Schaefer, Project Manager
